Colectivo Tarea Urgente (Chile)

The Chilean artistic collective Tarea Urgente presents its production Cordones Industriales (Industrial Belts) in Berlin, a work of scenic research that addresses the historical experience of self-organization during the Unidad Popular in Chile

There will be six performances of the play at the Grüner Salon of the Volksbühne (February 26, 27, and 28) and at the Berliner Ringtheater (March 12, 13, and 14)

The tour also includes talks, workshops, and the screening of a documentary, in collaboration with artistic and social groups in Berlin such as Rayuela Kollektiv e.V., the women's choir Canto Diáspora, the Bloque Latinoamericano Berlin, Houseclub-HAU, and Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.

Premiered in 2014, the play has toured major national and international stages and festivals, sharing a part of Chile's recent history that is unknown to many, yet still invites reflection on organizational strategies that may be relevant today—especially in the face of the global rise of the far right.

Theater, memory, and historical research

Based on archives, testimonies, and collective creative processes, the play offers a contemporary interpretation of forms of worker organization, popular power, and processes of politicization from below, establishing a dialogue between past and present.

Far from a traditional historiographical reconstruction, the production combines elements of documentary and physical theater to spark contemporary debates based on the past. In this sense, the play is part of a line of work that understands the stage as a space for thought, where the archive is not a closed object, but living material that is reactivated in its encounter with the audience.

This research is presented in various formats: documentary, play, book, performances, interventions in public spaces, and the archive exhibition “Atando cordones”.
